US Air Force recruits Antron® carpet fibre and Coloursource
United Kingdom, 1 April 2008 – - INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre and Coloursource have joined forces to provide a bespoke soft flooring solution for the United States Air Force base at RAF Mildenhall, home to the USAF 100th Air Refueling Wing, among others.
Utilising the performance benefits of Antron® Lumena™ solution dyed yarn, Coloursource has produced a custom 100% loop pile broadloom carpet that fulfils the brief for a hardwearing and soil hiding carpet for one of the busiest areas on the USAF base.
Antron® Lumena™ carpet fibre features a square cross section with four hollow channels running along its length that have been engineered to deliver soil hiding properties, making it particularly suitable for dining areas and so it was the natural choice for the carpet for the catering areas of USAF Mildenhall. With the added advantage of its solution dyed form, colour is less prone to fading when exposed to harsh cleaning chemicals and so Antron® Lumena™ is designed to maintain its looks for longer in this tough environment.
With heavy footfall from diners, the bespoke design originated by Coloursource also benefits from the tighter molecular structure of Antron® Lumena™, with the nylon type 6.6 fibre resisting matting and crushing and hence enhancing the longevity of the carpet within the dining area.
Working alongside members from the USAF, the Defense Estates team and members of the dining staff, Coloursource created a design that would not only help to minimise the appearance of soiling as set out in the brief, but that would also provide an ambience that would complement informal eating during the day and more formal functions and events. The result is a 29" pattern repeat that draws upon the existing Antron® Lumena™ colour palette and complements the existing interior.
With some 700m² of this bespoke carpet throughout the dining hall, Antron® carpet fibre and Coloursource have ensured that USAF Mildenhall has a carpet that not only helps to minimise the appearance of soiling, but that will also meet the performance requirements of the United States Air Force for years to come.
