Antron® carpet fibre and Coloursource prove crystal clear at the Gherkin
United Kingdom, 4 February 2008 – - INVISTA Antron® Legacy™ carpet fibre has ensured that Coloursource has been able to fulfil the performance and aesthetic demands of a global law firm's newly refurbished offices in one of London's most talked about buildings.
Some 2,000m² of Coloursource's Crystalpoint modular carpet has been installed over both the 25th and 26th floors at the Swiss Re Tower, infamously known as the Gherkin for its stunning architectural appearance. A bespoke colour option that has since become part of the standard colour bank, Arctic Stone, was conceived to complement the existing decor and it was imperative that it had the performance required to match the high demands placed upon this prestigious location.
Working closely with Coloursource, Tim Murray of Murray Symonds Associates selected the performance benefits that INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre brings to Crystalpoint to ensure that this twist pile carpet tile will provide aesthetic retention, durability and ease of maintenance across both floors currently inhabited by the law firm.
With a tighter molecular structure than type 6.0 nylon, Antron® carpet fibres feature a higher level of hydrogen bonding and maximum alignment between molecular chains, which results in a fibre that is more resistant to crushing and matting and that will provide improved longevity in commercial environments.
The Antron® fibre featured in Coloursource's Crystalpoint 50 x 50cm carpet tile has a specially engineered trilobal shape and together with its smooth surface, this helps to reduce the entrapment of dirt and diffuse light, minimising soil retention and providing enhanced long-term aesthetics.
The environmental benefits of Antron® carpet fibre are harmonious with the Swiss Re Tower's energy saving innovations that see it use up to half the amount of energy a similar tower would typically consume.
INVISTA has the unique position as the only carpet fibre manufacturer to be awarded the Environmental Profile by BRE (Building Research Establishment) Certification, in recognition of its low environmental impact from extraction through to disposal, and so the Crystalpoint carpet tile selected for the legal offices helps to support passive solar heating and gaps in the floor to create natural ventilation.
