Sky High Antron® carpet fibre

United Kingdom, 1 February 2008 – - INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre has helped Milliken Carpet Europe to fulfil the aesthetic and performance requirements of high specification commercial office space at 99 Bishopsgate in the heart of London's business district.

Some 2,000m² of Milliken's Thread and DNA modular carpet products that utilise the maintenance, aesthetic and performance benefits of INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre have been installed throughout the 25th and 26th floors of the building that are now residence to CRA International - a global business strategy consultants.

99 Bishopsgate is owned by leading UK and French commercial property specialist Hammersons plc and contains some 31,000m² of prime location office space. Extensively redeveloped in 1995, the top five floors have recently undergone a refurbishment to ensure suitability for corporate clients.

Working in close cooperation with Hammersons' specification team, CRA International selected two designs from Milliken Carpet's range of high performance modular carpeting solutions in the shape of Thread and DNA, with one floor following a taupe base tone and the other using the suede colourway.

By selecting a Milliken carpet tile that features INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre, CRA International is ensuring that that the aesthetic properties of the two floors will remain for a longer period, thanks to the unique molecular structure of the nylon type 6.6 fibre. The tighter interspersion of molecules within the fibre endows it with more resistance to crushing and matting, resulting in a floor with more resistance to wear. Also, the trilobal cross-section of INVISTA, Antron carpet fibre goes someway in minimising the appearance of soiling, helping to ensure that the aesthetic properties of the carpets are maintained between regular cleaning periods.

Not only does Milliken Carpets equip both its DNA and Thread products with all the performance benefits of INVISTA Antron® carpet fibre, it also enhance their resistance to spills and stains with the addition of its proprietary Stain Resist treatment.

Jane Harrison, UK Marketing Manager, INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre examines the installation:

"With high specification office installations such as this at 99 Bishopsgate, the correct selection of fibre is crucial in ensuring that the expectations of tenants are met during occupancy. By utilising the performance benefits of INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre throughout the office space on two floors, CRA International will benefit from a modular carpet that delivers maximum performance."

A recent survey carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) has revealed that within any commercial office space, textile floor coverings have a positive effect on reducing sound.

The study explains that carpet is capable of reducing airborne sound by more than 50% than hard floor coverings at higher frequencies (2,000 to 4,000Hz) and can reduce impact sound by up to 40dB for thick, deep pile carpets and by up to 20dB for flat woven textiles. In 99 Bishopsgate the result is a workplace that encourages enhanced productivity.

In conclusion, Morag Girdwood, Marketing Director, Milliken Carpet Europe says:

'We have a long working relationship with Hammersons plc and it had no hesitation in recommending us to its tenant CRA International. Through delivering performance products utilising INVISTA, Antron® carpet fibre, we have built a reputation for delivering the high specification commercial office sector with modular carpeting solutions that deliver. The stunning aesthetic and correctly chosen fibre at 99 Bishopsgate will keep CRA International satisfied for years to come."
