How To

Stain Removal

Gum (Chewing)

  1. Apply ice or a formulated spray (chewing gum remover) and allow time to harden the gum.
  2. Gently scrape and remove with a bone spatula, spoon or knife.
  3. If the gum leaves a discoloration, begin working at the edge of the stain toward the center and do not rub.
  4. First use clean, warm water with a general-purpose detergent spotter. Use gloves and apply the general-purpose detergent spotter to a clean, white cloth. Apply the cloth to the stain or spill with pressure. Blot to transfer the stain or spill to the cloth and continue blotting until all residue is transferred. Do not rub or brush the cleaning agent into the carpet.
  5. Rinse with a minimal amount of clean water, blot with a dry, clean white cloth until all excess moisture is absorbed.
  6. When dry, the carpet should be thoroughly vacuumed to restore the pile.

A general-purpose detergent spotter dissolves and/or suspends many common soils including light oils and some foods and beverages.

Follow instructions for the use of a general-purpose detergent spotter on the specific product container.
